Get an 802.11n Wi-Fi router with print/FTP server for $21.99 shipped

Still haven't pulled the trigger on an 802.11n (aka Wireless N) router? You should. It'll provide faster throughput, better range, stronger security, and more features than your clunky old 802.11b or g router.

Normally, a replacement like that would run you upward of $60, but right now Buy.com has the Asus RT-N13U Wireless N Router for just $21.99 shipped. That's after a $20 mail-in rebate (PDF), however, which comes in the form of a prepaid Visa debit card.

Cisco Valet Plus: A wireless router that anyone can set up

Setting up a wireless network at home is not exactly a walk in the park for most home users. For those who aren't tech-savvy, even the networking terms themselves, such as SSID, encryption key, LAN, and WAN, are already very intimidating. For this reason, last week Cisco announced a new line of wireless routers, called Cisco Valet, that takes the "Flip approach" when it comes to ease of use (Cisco acquired the maker of the Flip, Pure Digital, a year ago).

I just had a chance to review the Cisco Valet Plus, the high-end router of the … Read more

Cisco takes the Flip approach to home routers

One of the most essential tech products at home is also probably the one you hate the most: your wireless router.

Setting up a home network can be for some an excruciating experience, one that can leave even tech-savvy folks wringing their hands while switching off between calling the router's customer service line and their Internet service provider.

Cisco Systems says it's designed a new line of routers specifically to avoid this. The Valet and Valet Plus, will be available at retailers like Best Buy, Staples, and Target and online at Amazon.com starting Wednesday for $99 and $… Read more

Belkin introduces wireless routers with apps

Of all electronic and computer devices in your home, the wireless router might be the one that's least appreciated. That is because despite it tireless 24-7 job of connecting all your devices to the Internet, it only gets attention when you need to add a new wireless device to the network or when it's not working properly. Belkin has decided to change this.

The company announced Wednesday a line of wireless routers that is designed to help you do more with digital content than just silently connect devices. Belkin's new line consists of four wireless routers: the Read more

Cisco's big announcement? A new router

Cisco is reminding us that the heart and soul of its business is still the humble router. In this case, maybe a not-so-humble router.

On Tuesday the company announced the CRS-3, its next-generation Internet router for the world's largest Internet service providers. Cisco may have overhyped the announcement just a tad. After a two-week countdown to an announcement that it said would "forever change the Internet," the company unveiled what looks like an upgrade to its existing "core" router called the CRS-1.

While the hype machine may have failed to deliver something truly revolutionary, Cisco'… Read more
