Nokia announces U.S. availability of Nokia E61i and Nokia E65

Back in February at the 3GSM World Congress, Nokia introduced three new models to its E series of business-centric smart phones: the Nokia E65, the Nokia E61i, and the Nokia E90. We oohed and we ahhed, and went through our usual pangs of defeat as we resigned ourselves to fact that we probably wouldn't see these devices in the United States. Well, lift up your heads and break those piggy banks, my friends, because today the Finnish cell phone manufacturer announced the U.S. availability of the Nokia E65 and Nokia E61i (the E90 is expected to ship in … Read more

Dell hawking unlocked phones

What hath the iPhone wrought? Perhaps more computer companies selling fancy phones.

Just as Apple prepares to sell its long-awaited combination smart phone and iPod, six models of unlocked Nokia and Pharos phones have cropped up on Dell's Web site. The Nokia E61, E61i, N73, N80 and N95, and Pharos 600 and 600E are available to be used with any GSM carrier. Prices range from $383 to $736, a bit pricier than when buying directly from a wireless carrier, which subsidizes the price with a contract.

The phones can be found under the small business accessories tab on Dell.… Read more

Cincinnati Bell Wireless has launched a new service that allows people to use one handset that switches between a Wi-Fi and cellular network.

The service, called CB Home Run, works using a dual-mode Wi-Fi and cellular phone that lets users switch between the two networks depending on which one offers the best signal. Cincinnati Bell is using the Nokia 6086 handset, which contains radios for both Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity. The operator is offering the phone for about $65 with a $15 rebate. It works with Wi-Fi networks in homes and offices as well as with Cincinnati Bell's more … Read more

Nokia 5700: Twist and shout

It's been a few days since the Nokia 5700 Xpress Music first arrived on my desk, and I've had the chance to give it a thorough going-over. Overall, I like what I see, though I can't give it the CNET Editors' Choice award that I bestowed upon its Nokia 5300 predecessor. While it offers improved features, the photo quality didn't fare quite as well, and it isn't optimized for U.S. 3G networks. But even with those misgivings, it's a superior music phone in all respects, and it makes good calls, too. The twisting … Read more

Nokia 5700 first thoughts

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of the Nokia 5300 Xpress Music. In fact, I loved it so much when I reviewed it last year that I gave it a CNET Editors' Choice award. So you can imagine I was a bit excited when the new Nokia 5700 Xpress Music landed on my desk. As the update to the 5300, the 5700 offers everything found on its predecessor but with a new twist (literally).

At first you might think the overall design hasn't changed much, but the 5700 offers a twisting base like that on … Read more

Nokia's 'Signature' phone is work of art

It's not often that a mobile phone gets a unique makeover these days, especially at a time when ordinary handsets with loud paint jobs are routinely passed off as exclusive designer creations. But the new "Signature Edition" of Nokia's N76 is truly a work of art, thanks to Finnish sculptor Bjorn Weckstrom.

This customized black-and-chrome version of the smart phone features a miniature handmade sculpture from Lapponia Jewelry designed by Weckstrom. Electronista says that even the on-screen interface of the handset is "directly inspired by the artist's efforts."

The phone, whose specs are … Read more

Screening calls: Nokia's CK-15W

Taking a leaf out of Harman Kardon's gadget book, Nokia is about to launch a in-car minidisplay to allow drivers to control their cell phone calls when on the road. The Nokia Bluetooth Display Car Kit CK-15W features a 2.2-inch TFT color display, which can be mounted on a car's dashboard to give drivers the information they need for making and controlling calls via some handsome-looking menus.

Like some of the Bluetooth stereos we have reviewed recently, the CK-15W will have the ability to download cell phone contact books. We'll be doing our best to get … Read more
