It takes a village: Group bug-swatting for the iPhone

The Web is filled with folks coming up with makeshift solutions from paper clips to cutting plastic away from headphones for some of the issues I've written about here.

For example, my friend Patrick, otherwise known as "he who waited hours in the iPhone line with me," agreed with my observations about previous generation iPod accessories that, on first glance, don't work with the iPhone. (He also had to wait three days in limbo for his iPhone to activate after being ported from Nextel while his wife's phone worked instantly, but that's another story … Read more

When in Rome, Prada is plentiful. Bringsome?

It's always those little things spotted in a foreign country that I wish I'd grabbed more of to bring back home, like $2 cartoon-print chopsticks from Tokyo, a $3 sack of paprika from Budapest, or $1 bottles of local lavender oil from Zagreb. I may not revisit those places, but I could ask for someone going there to snag some stuff for me. If you're my friend, however, that could interfere with your carefree vacation. Why not ask a stranger instead?

Bringsome is built just for that. Travelers on the site offer to bring back goodies from … Read more

Will you return your iPhone?

If any of the thousands of people who waited in line two weeks ago at Apple and AT&T stores to purchase the iPhone have encountered buyer's remorse, Friday is deadline for a full refund.

Both Apple and AT&T will accept iPhone returns within 14 days of purchase. If you opened the box, there's a 10 percent restocking fee, but you won't be charged the early termination fee if you also want to cancel service with AT&T. After 14 days, you can cancel your service, but you can't return the iPhone. … Read more

Klondike 5, 5555

The Macalope wants to delve into the iPhone nano rumors spun out of a report from JP Morgan Tawain's Kevin Chang that were briefly touched on MacBreak Weekly.

In a rather hilarious move, JP Morgan's U.S. group came into the office yesterday morning and said something to the effect of "Kevin Chang? Never heard of him. Not one of our analysts. Maybe he works for Piper."

Now, the horned one was actually an iPod shuffle doubter before the smallest iPod of them all came out, so maybe his track record on this isn't the … Read more

Democrats criticize AT&T's exclusive iPhone deal

Editor's note: This story was updated at 1:35 p.m. PDT.

WASHINGTON--AT&T's exclusive right to sell the Apple iPhone drew complaints on Wednesday from Democratic politicians, though it was unclear whether they were planning to do anything about it.

"The problem with the iPhone is that the iPhone with AT&T is kind of like a 'Hotel California' service," Massachusetts Rep. Ed Markey said--in a nod to the Eagles hit, of course--during a hearing. "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

iHeard it not: Non-Apple iPhone headphones don't work with the iPhone

Being brave, I finally took my iPhone to the gym to listen to it while I worked out. No fear of dropping it could stop me now. Usually, I have an 8-gig iPod Nano with me. For a workout, I don't usually use the headphones that come with the iPod, since they: (1) fall out of my ears; (2) don't have enough bass to motivate me to run/erg/push that extra mile out; and, (3) let's face it: the standard-issue iPod earphone sound quality, well, just sucks.

To alleviate this unfortunate state of affairs, instead of … Read more
