The weird world where 3D printing and art collide

While we may never think the world of 3D movies, at least the 3D printing ecosystem continues to evolve rapidly in a good direction. With interest in 3D printers, as well as accessibility to them, becoming more commonplace, an increasing number of artists use these machines -- capable of making nearly anything -- to stretch the limits of design.

The first 3D Print Show, held in London's Brewery next month -- October 19-21 -- gives those in the 3D printing industry a centralized venue for collaborating and educating, as well as showing off some mind-bending 3D creations.… Read more

Get ready for CNET On Cars!

About eight years ago our team here inside CNET was, shall we say, divided over the prospect of covering cars. A number of smart people asked if cars made sense on a site that focuses on tech. Nobody asks that question any more.

We've brought you more than 1,100 car videos since then, and on September 4, we take the next step: a new show called CNET On Cars, where we'll expand on our mutual love of cars and their technology. I think this is the most exciting, world-changing aspect of technology -- but I'm biased!… Read more

Infidelity at trade shows? It's a concern, says a survey

Trust never comes easy, even in the strongest of relationships.

Your lover can tell you she loves you and wants to elope with you one minute; then insist you're surplus to requirements the next.

So when you (or your loved one) disappears to CES or some other vast conglomeration of humanity, bad things will likely happen.

To prove this careworn point, might I offer a new survey in which 94 percent of Americans declared that bad things happen at conferences and trade shows?

You might detect a certain potential slant in this research, as it was performed on behalf … Read more

Netflix's new feature makes TV show marathons easier

If you're in the middle of a "Mad Men" marathon on Netflix, the streaming service's new Post-play feature, unveiled today, could make it easier to jump to the next episode of Don Draper's exploits.

"When you finish watching an episode of a TV show, we'll minimize the credits and tee-up the next episode," Netflix wrote on its official blog. "If you do nothing, the next episode will start to play in 15 seconds. You can also stop it to get more information or select another episode."

The benefit is clearly … Read more

iTunes vs. Amazon: What's the best video service on the iPad?

The future of TV, movies, and home entertainment feels like it's changing by the day, thanks to the impact of the digital revolution. Netflix is the top dog thanks to its $8 subscription streaming service, but your viewing choices are severely limited. For a la carte, pay-as-you-go services, Apple's iTunes has been the default choice for many when it comes to buying, renting, and viewing videos. Splitting the difference was Amazon's Instant Video: it offers a diverse library of pay-per-view TV shows and movies, plus a subset of "free" content for subscribers to the company'… Read more
