According to sources from music news site The Music Void, Apple is pushing hard for labels to get on board with Apple's new MobileMe service for music storage and streaming called "Locker." The service, the site reports, will cost $20/year and be ready for launch sometime in April.Informed sources say that Apple has sealed its deal with Warner and has been using that agreement to leverage the other labels to get the deals done in time for the April launch....These same sources tell me that although Universal Music and EMI are more or less … Read more

San Francisco-based designer Seth Quest needs help. In return, he'll help you solve what he thinks is a common problem with the iPad--how to use it hands-free.
With the successful Kickstarter funding of many iPhone and iPad accessories, Quest is hoping to get his product in the mix. Hanfree aims to solve a relatively common issue many iPad users face. Using your iPad in bed can become tiresome, having to constantly adjust how you're sitting or lying, and how you're holding the device. Quest's site says:The case allows you to simply snap the iPad into … Read more
In what may have been nothing more than a minor footnote to Friday's launch of Apple's iPad 2, shipping times on Apple's Web site quickly jumped from 3 to 5 business days to 2 to 3 weeks.
Interestingly, according to a report from AppleInsider, AT&T is already shipping iPad 2s to customers, with some expecting to see theirs as early as Monday.
As of the writing of this article, shipping times on Apple's Web site are 3 to 4 weeks for all models of the iPad 2. The photo below, from AppleInsider, shows the … Read more
I won't name names, but we have an editor here in the office, who, every time a new Apple product comes out, says he isn't going to get it. He had the iPhone 3GS and said he was going to wait for the iPhone 5 and not get the iPhone 4. Two weeks later, he had the iPhone 4 and had given his 3GS to his wife.
I said, "Dude, where's your discipline?"
"I know, I know," he replied sheepishly. "But I wanted it. I couldn't resist."
He's got an iPad, the original. I know he's going to get an iPad 2, even though he says he isn't. How do I know? Because the moment Steve Jobs got up on stage and showed his first slide, he said, "Gee, that looks pretty nice." He had him at hello.
The iPad 2 didn't look any different from what we expected it to look like--and it didn't look all that different from the original iPad. But suddenly there on stage in the flesh it had taken on a new, irresistible sheen. Not the Charlie kind of Sheen. Just the Apple kind. … Read more
According to a German Web site claiming to have a reliable source, iOS 5 and the new-look MobileMe, widely expected to become a free syncing service offered by Apple, will be unveiled at an event in early April to be held on the Apple campus in Cupertino, Calif.
This rumor may be closer to an educated guess, though, as Apple announced (and showed a preview of) iOS 4 on … Read more
In a few recent job postings noticed by AppleInsider, Apple has perhaps given a hint as to its future plans for iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPads, looking for qualified individuals to bolster its Voice Control and syncing departments.
This is not the first search for Voice Control experts in which Apple has engaged. Back in December Apple was looking for new hires "specializing in voice technologies such as speech recognition, iOS software development for speech applications, and speech research."
Now, Apple is looking for three iOS Speech Operations Engineers to help develop the Voice Control functionality of iOS devices. Some of the more-advanced skills that Apple is looking for include:
Demonstrated experience deploying and configuring large numbers of Xen VM instances.
Demonstrated experience working with ssh, kickstart, bind, postfix, nagios; iptables, sed, awk, curl.
Demonstrated experience with configuring loadbalancing and firewalls.
Demonstrated experience with Nuance Recognizer, IBM WebSphere Voice, Google Voice, or similar voice search tool.
The oft-quoted DigiTimes, a Taiwanese tech industry favorite publication, has revealed that Apple is outsourcing the production of its A5 processor chip, which many expect will be based on the ARM Cortex A9 design and used in the forthcoming iPhone 5, to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.
AppleInsider reports that Apple's A4 chip is currently produced by Samsung Electronics, but the move to Taiwan Semiconductor for production of the A5 chip is because of Samsung's inability to keep up with Apple's supply demands.
This tip is easy, but extremely useful for users wanting to get the most out of their iOS device. Interestingly, there are tens, if not hundreds, of calendar, to-do, and organization Apps for your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch that you can use to remember things.
But the best way may be a functionality that iOS offers already. The screen most people see the most is the lock screen. It stands to reason then that the lock screen would be the perfect place for a constant reminder.
There are any number of ways to accomplish this. One, provided by a … Read more
