Baseball Boyfriend app: Fantasy fun or insultingly immature?

Spring training has barely begun, but Baseball Boyfriend already has people thinking about which player they would most like to "date" this season.

Baseball Boyfriend is a $2.99 mini-game add-on to CBS Sports' fantasy baseball offerings. (Disclosure: CNET is published by CBS Interactive, a unit of CBS.) Users choose a single draftee and collect points based on the player's performance. You can keep or dump a draftee, depending on his stats and your level of emotional attachment.

The app offers three looks: clean, original, and pirate. The original look could have been cobbled from a love-struck … Read more

Tom Brady: I watched last year's Super Bowl on illegal site

When saints become sinners we all breathe more easily, because we all realize the distance between them and us is not so great.

Many will feel their lungs expand, therefore, on hearing that the New England Patriots' quarterback and all-around perfect human being watched last year's Super Bowl illegally on his laptop.

You might think I exaggerate, but no. The Associated Press heard him make the admission quite casually in a Super Bowl news conference.

Here are his reported words: "Last year I was rehabbing my foot in Costa Rica, watching the game on an illegal Super Bowl … Read more

Is Bleacher Report ready for some football?

SAN FRANCISCO--The Super Bowl takes place in just over 72 hours, and Brian Grey and his lieutenants are trying to plan what is by far their most important day of the year.

Grey is the CEO of Bleacher Report, one of the largest sports Web sites in the U.S., and a place nearly 26 million people visited in January for the latest insights into their favorite teams.

Unlike many sports publications, Bleacher Report doesn't concentrate on breaking news with a team of paid writers. Instead, it relies on sports enthusiasts around the country and the world who are … Read more

Feds seize illegal sports-streaming sites

Just a few days short of Super Bowl Sunday, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced today it had seized 307 Web sites that either live-streamed sports or sold fake NFL paraphernalia.

The federal agents also arrested a Michigan man on criminal copyright infringement charges who allegedly operated nine of the streaming sites.

"While most people are focusing on whether the Patriots or Giants will win on Sunday, we at ICE have our sights on a different type of victory: defeating the international counterfeiting rings that illegally profit off of this event, the NFL, its players and sports … Read more

Dumped, cancer-stricken man gives away Super Bowl tix via Twitter

"I have the cancer of a 95-year-old Jewish man."

That's how TV writer Jason Elia described his current physical condition to ESPN 97.5 radio in Houston.

It seems to be a condition that became a deal-breaker for his girlfriend, who, he says, left him because she didn't want to, well, deal with his bladder cancer-- even though he has an 87 per cent chance of survival.

He says that she was so compassion-free that she still wanted him to give her the Super Bowl tickets he had bought for them both. Well, he'd only … Read more

Polk's new headphones take a licking, keep on sticking

LAS VEGAS--We've heard of headphones delivering new highs before, but never quite like this.

At the Polk Audio booth here at the Consumer Electronics Show, the manufacturer has set up one of the more brazen gimmicks at a show filled with brazen gimmicks: a trampoline gymnast who zooms toward the high convention-center ceiling with every jump. Of course, she's wearing Polk's new Ultrafit sports headphones, which--big surprise--stayed put despite her vigorous bounces.… Read more

Root for your NFL team with grilled cheese

The NFL has done a pretty good job of making its brand known. It seems everywhere one looks a logo from a football franchise can be found. What was once mostly limited to apparel is now available on anything. Even on a grilled cheese sandwich.

What you get from the Pangea Brands NFL Logo Sandwich and Waffle Grill may not be the most obvious next step in the evolutionary chain of licensed sports memorabilia, but it might be the tastiest. The clamshell countertop appliance cooks the logo of your favorite team directly on the bread. The nonstick plates are removable, … Read more

Shoot the curl with Oregon Scientific's ACTCMini Action cam

LAS VEGAS--As I've said before, it's not often that I get to cover surf-related tech, so when CNET's Kent German told me Oregon Scientific had a new video camera for surfboards, you'd better believe I bolted over to the company's booth to check it out.

The ATCMini Action Video Camera is Oregon Scientific's latest action cam, and it's one of the lightest ones yet at just 2.3 ounces. This means it won't weigh you down when you're trying to capture all your thrills and spills as you're surfing, biking, … Read more
