ZTE C78, C79 now at Pocket Communications

ZTE announced today that it has partnered with regional carrier Pocket Communications to release the ZTE C78 and the ZTE C79. Previously, these handsets have only been with MetroPCS. The C78 is a candybar-style phone with a 2-inch backlit display, stereo Bluetooth, but not much else. The C79 is a flip phone with external music player keys, a 1.3-megapixel camera, and stereo Bluetooth as well. Both handsets will be available for Pocket Communications subscribers in Texas and in New England. No word as to pricing just yet.

Skype gets SMS, file transfer for Windows Mobile

Skype's latest mobile beta for Windows Mobile phones graduated to version 3.0 on Tuesday. Skype 3.0 beta for Windows Mobile integrates two big features from the desktop version--file transferring and SMS. Both are welcome additions that bring the mobile VoIP application much closer in line with the newly updated desktop version, Skype 4.0 for Windows.

LAS VEGAS--When Acer and Asus first started pushing Netbooks, it was all about flash memory. But now, a majority of the small, Atom-powered notebooks have hard drives. And Bill Watkins, chief executive of hard drive market leader Seagate, likes it that way.
