Defend against the assault

Air Assault is a relatively unremarkable arcade game in which you fight "invading Russian/Afghanistan forces" in Afghanistan with "Anti-Air and Mortal" (presumably "mortar") guns.

Every game begins with a slowly scrolling text introduction set to "Flight of the Valkyries," which you can thankfully skip. It outlines a muddled, quasi-historical backdrop with dubious references to "September 11" and Operation Enduring Freedom (which isn't helped by later appearances of apparent suicide bombers and oil-production fields, something that Afghanistan is not particularly known for). The game's wide-screen interface has you … Read more

Reality TV star arrested for attacking ex with laptop

Welcome to "Reality TV meets Tech In A Nasty Head-On Collision Week."

After the hard-shoe conspiracy shuffle danced by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak this week, I now bring you Kenley Collins, a finalist in season 5 of "Project Runway."

Kenley was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly assaulting her ex-fiance with, among other things, a laptop.

You will all collectively breathe again when I tell you that the laptop was not, apparently, her first weapon of choice. No, that was the cat.

She allegedly threw poor Tiddles (yes, name made up by me) in her ex'… Read more

Woman assaulted for asking loud cell phone talker to chill

Please tell the truth. Once in a while, you really want to tell someone describing at a high lung level the date they had last night with a perverted zombie to just belt up. Or at least to make his or her cell phone call a little more intimate.

Well, a woman standing in line at a Brooklyn bodega found Berta Rakhmamimov's cell-phone conversation a little too piercing.

And she allegedly wound up attacked by Rakhmamimov's fists, coffee and, naturally, stiletto heels.

For those of you fond of a blow-by-blow account of fisticuffs, police said that Rahkmamimov first … Read more

A Hello Kitty assault rifle that actually exists

This was sent to us by a tipster. I don't normally spend my time reading RifleGear.com, but from the likes of this item, maybe I should.

Awhile back we were treated to a hilarious Photoshop job called the HK-47--an assault rifle decorated with images of everybody's favorite nonpornographic, nontentacled Japanese import, Hello Kitty. We were sad to learn that it was, well, Photoshopped.

But now, out of nowhere, here's a real one. As a protest against assault weapons bans, one rifle enthusiast in California decided to create a weapon that would "alleviate the fears … Read more

Guncopter: Another aggie myth in the making

Remember when Farmer Brown would break out the 12-gauge loaded with rock salt to chase you out of his watermelon patch? Today he could take care of you and other varmints with this weaponized version of the self-stabilized unmanned mini-copter put out by Neural Robotics.

The AutoCopter uses patented "intelligent neural network-based flight control algorithms" for automated flight control, making it the easiest mini-unmanned helicopter to fly and the hardest to crash, according to an article in Defense Review.

Best of all, it's armed with the Auto Assault-12 Full-Auto Shotgun by Military Police Systems, an innovative double-ought … Read more

No, sorry, the 'HK-47' is a joke

As regular readers of this blog very well know, our overlord Mike Yamamoto is terrified of Hello Kitty and believes wholeheartedly that the pink-and-white feline is trying to take over the world. So, you can imagine, when I found evidence of an (unofficial) Hello Kitty assault rifle on BoingBoing (appropriately called the HK-47), I decided that maybe I ought to believe Mike and start getting worried.

Unfortunately, there isn't really a Hello Kitty assault rifle. The site that BoingBoing links to, "GlamGuns," is a parody site. You can't really commission them to create you a Hello … Read more

Systemax launches "ruggedized" laptop

Frankly, we're a little disturbed by the latest naming trends for rugged notebooks. Previously, we had the straightforward ToughBook and the innocuous XTG630. But last week we saw the fully rugged Victum, and today Systemax announced the 14.1-inch Assault. Despite its tough name, the Assault is not built to military specifications; in fact, many of the Assault's ruggedized features--a magnesium alloy case, antishock design, and a spill-resistant keyboard and touch pad--can be found on corporate models from Dell and Lenovo.

Still, those features aren't exactly common on a laptop with a starting price of $1,000. … Read more

Pop goes the presidential SUV

Need to take out a book depository? This U.S. Secret Service Urban Assault SUV should do the trick.

The GMC-mounted mini-gun accompanies the presidential cavalcade, at least here at home. Apparently it's not a welcome guest in some host countries. England, for instance, asked the prez to leave his miniguns at home. Note the rotating turret.
