Busy installing software on your Mac, busy playing games on your PC or Android device, busy reading cool books about videogames. Yep, it's bundle time, and in the last few days I've seen an unprecedented five new ones hit the Interwebs. Let's get right to 'em:

1. The Fantastic Bundle (Mac)

MacPhun's collection includes seven eclectic Mac apps for $19.99. Combined value if purchased separately: $164.99. I'm not a Mac user, but I see a couple standouts in desktop-publishing app Swift Publisher and … Read more

Fez lands on Windows

In the 2D/3D platformer, Fez, your protagonist Gomez embarks on an epic journey to uncover a universe-shattering mystery. The game's own journey from conception to the Windows platform has been nearly as monumental. First announced in July 2007, Fez's development was delayed for years. Creator Phil Fish's company, Polytron struggled with internal issues before finally demoing the game in 2011 and releasing a final version on Xbox Live in April 2012. Another year later, and the game finally lands on Windows, available from online distributors Steam and GOG.

Despite the long haul to release, Fez has … Read more

Robot Unicorn Attack 2: More wishes, more powers, more glory

When I first learned that Cartoon Network's Adult Swim released a sequel to Robot Unicorn Attack (RUA) a few days ago on iOS, I could barely contain my excitement.

As one of the first apps I ever downloaded onto my device, it holds a special place in my heart. I forked over $2.99 for it, and ever since then, I was able to travel to a world with so much wonder and color, my eyes cried rainbows after 10 minutes of gameplay.

And while it's hard to improve a game that already features jumping dolphins and severed … Read more

Microsoft's Azure gets competitive with $1B in revenue

While Amazon is still king in the cloud computing world, it appears that Microsoft's Azure software is on the up and up. Not only have Azure subscriptions risen 48 percent over the past six months, but Azure and related Microsoft cloud service software earned $1 billion in revenue over the past year for the first time ever, according to Bloomberg.

Making the "billion-dollar club" is pretty significant -- considering the slumping PC market. Microsoft revealed these new performance details to Bloomberg in an interview on Monday.

Twenty percent of companies use Azure, while 71 percent go to … Read more

Opera Software has sued former employee Trond Werner Hansen, alleging that he gave trade secrets to rival browser maker Mozilla.

"Opera is of the opinion that the former employee has acted contrary to his contractual and other legal obligations towards Opera. Among other things, we claim that he is in breach of the duty of loyalty and his contractual and statutory confidentiality obligations," said Ole E. Tokvam, a … Read more

Free Software Foundation attacks DRM in HTML video

The Free Software Foundation, never a friend to digital rights management, has taken issue with its arrival in the Web standards world.

In a letter from the FSF, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Creative Commons, and other allied groups yesterday, the group called on the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to keep DRM out of the standards it defines.

"We write to implore the World Wide Web Consortium and its member organizations to reject the Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) proposal," the groups said. "DRM restricts the public's freedom, even beyond what overzealous copyright law requires, to the perceived … Read more

Get a $217 Windows software bundle for $29

For a long while I've had my eye on TuneUp, a sophisticated Windows utility that promises to fix all the problems with your music library: mislabeled song info, missing album artwork, and so on. But I couldn't bring myself to pay $49.95 for it.

Even the company's current special, a 30 percent discount, seems steep.

Ah, but give me TuneUp for $29 and throw in six other programs. Now we're talking. That's exactly the deal being offered by PCBundler, which has seven Windows apps (including TuneUp) for $29.

Needless to say, I think TuneUp (… Read more
