Twitter may be working on a significant redesign of its Web site meant to make the service look more like Facebook.
Mashable reported Tuesday that one of its editors spotted an all-new design of the Twitter home page that appears aimed at mimicking the look and feel of Facebook.
According to Mashable, the new Twitter profile page has the avatar photo and biography placed well to the left side of the page and devotes a lot of space to the header photo.
The design, which Mashable suggested only affects the desktop version of Twitter, also seems to make tweets much … Read more
Social media is so pervasive that a growing percentage of young people refuse to part with their favorite networks -- even when nature is calling.
Some 40 percent of young adults ages 18 to 24 use social media in the bathroom, which is up from 32 percent in the previous year, according to Nielsen's Digital Consumer Report. The group is two times more likely than the national average to social network when visiting the loo.
Nielsen's report, published Monday, is compiled from a variety of sources and includes data from an online survey with a representative sample of … Read more

If you're looking to buy a streaming box, it's likely you'll end up choosing between three products: Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV.
Those aren't the only streaming boxes on the market, but they're by far the most popular and for good reason -- they all come in models under $100 and offer a lot of value for your money. While the Roku 3 remains my favorite streamer and a CNET Editors' Choice, it's not necessarily the best choice for every buyer and the Google Chromecast and Apple TV are compelling alternatives.
So which media … Read more
Twitter shares were down more than 17.5 percent in after-hours trading in the wake of its first-ever quarterly earnings report. While the company blew past analysts' expectations for revenue, its user growth slowed significantly, leading many to worry it has peaked.
But Twitter doesn't think so. In its earnings conference call, CEO Dick Costolo tried to spin the slowdown in growth by admitting that he knows that the service's experience for new users is far less than ideal, and said the company is planning major initiatives to make things easier for new users from the moment they … Read more
Facebook has been with us for a decade now, forever redefining the meaning of "social" in the process. With all the tributes and looking back going on, we came across one parody of Facebook's own "A Look Back" feature that seems to capture what the social network is really all about -- hilariously inappropriate and not really safe-for-work photos.
Perhaps most disturbingly, I recognized at least one of these crude images from having also shared it on my own Facebook photo stream at one point. I refuse to tell you which one. … Read more

Quarterly earnings for the company were up 116 percent from the fourth quarter a year ago. However, it posted a net loss of $511.5 million for the quarter, and its net loss for all of 2013 came in at $645.3 million.
For the full 2013 fiscal year, the company posted $664.… Read more
Although Twitter has yet to confirm that it will be allowing users to buy products directly through tweets, a publicly-available Web mockup suggests that such a system may be right around the corner.
According to the mockup, which was first discovered by Recode, and which is still publicly available as of this writing, users will be able to make purchases directly within tweets through a system that could be known as Twitter Commerce.
In a user's feed, tweets with purchase options would have a "Twitter Commerce" label on them, according to the mockup. Clicking through to open … Read more
The National Football League is jumping on the digital bandwagon.
With just three days left before the Super Bowl, the NFL unveiled NFL Now, a digital network that will deliver personalized streams of video to fans. The service won't launch until the summer, most likely around July or August.
The NFL is the latest to make a bigger push in digital and so-called over-the-top media, or videos and other content streamed over the Internet. Others, including ESPN, with its WatchESPN app, and even the World Wrestling Entertainment, with its upcoming WWE Network, are looking to Internet content to bolster … Read more
