RealD signs big names for 3D TV

RealD, a company whose 3D display technology already is widely used in movie theaters, has enlisted a raft of prominent partners for the TV industry: Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, JVC, Samsung, and DirecTV.

This week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, RealD announced deals that will bring its technology to Samsung products, Toshiba's ZX900 TV, Panasonic's Full HD 3D Viera TVs, Sony's Bravia HDTVs, and LCD monitors from JVC.

Beverly Hills, Calif.-based RealD also announced it's cooperating with those same companies for 3D eyewear.

LAS VEGAS--We've seen a handful of iPod boom boxes with retro styling--the Lasonic i931 and Altec Lansing Mix iMT800 come to mind--and now JVC is joining the party with the RV-NB50 Kaboom.

This newest Kaboom keeps the CD player, FM radio, and tubular design of the earlier Kaboom model (first launched in 1998), but it adds the requisite iPod dock and line-in port. JVC's new Blu-ray player is a Profile 1.1 throwback

These days, what separates Blu-ray players from one another has less to do with how they play Blu-rays--they all do that pretty well--and more to do with the sort of extra features they offer. Many players, for instance, can access a variety of online entertainment options, including Amazon Video On Demand, Pandora, Vudu, and especially Netflix. Unfortunately, JVC's latest player doesn't have any of those online features. In fact, it can't even access the online extras found on some Blu-ray Discs.

JVC Everio GZ-MG670, GZ-MG680 Quick Take

CNET has not reviewed the JVC Everio GZ-MG670 and GZ-MG680 standard-definition digital camcorders. However, they are primarily the same as the JVC Everio GZ-MS120, which has been reviewed.

The only differences between the models are size, storage media, and in-camera video upconversion. The slightly smaller MS120 has no fixed internal memory. Instead, it has two SD/SDHC memory card slots, but no included memory cards. Buyers must purchase an SD/SDHC card up to 32GB separately.
