JVC re-ups pocket cam line with touch-screen models

JVC's initial Picsio minicamcorder offering, the GC-FM1, was fairly weak and with so many other options available to consumers, it left us wondering "why bother?" Well, JVC's back with two new models that are at the very least competitive with those from Kodak, Flip, Sony, Sanyo, and Samsung. One of them is even waterproof to 10 feet.

The GC-WP10 features a 3-inch touch screen (JVC claims it can be used with gloves on, too); records at four resolutions including 1,080p at 30 frames per second and 720p at 60 fps; captures 5-megapixel stills; has electronic … Read more

JVC's affordable sound bar sports a wireless sub, easy controls

For absolute home theater simplicity, it's hard to beat a sound bar home theater in a box (HTIB) system. One long speaker, no AV receiver required, and no pesky wires running all over your living room. The JVC TH-BA1 does the standard configuration one better by including a wireless subwoofer, so the only cables you'll need are behind your TV cabinet.

Aside from the wireless subwoofer, the TH-BA1 includes a standard assortment of features, but it stands out from the pack with its better-than-expected sound quality and ease of use. The lack of HDMI connectivity is the major … Read more

JVC NX-D2--Massive shelf system doubles down on iPod access

Once upon a time, having an iPod dock was considered a great upgrade to any audio system. But now that iPod compatibility is par for the course, speaker systems are distinguishing themselves from the pack by doubling down on them. JVC was one of the first to offer dual iPod docks on one device with the JVC NX-PN7, but now the company has supersized the concept with the NX-D2. It's a brawny shelf system that boasts 230 watts of power and a three-way (woofer/midrange/tweeter) speaker design. In addition to the dual iPod docks, the NX-D2 also offers … Read more

Retro boom box JVC RV-NB50 Kaboom adds iPod compatibility

LAS VEGAS--We've seen a handful of iPod boom boxes with retro styling--the Lasonic i931 and Altec Lansing Mix iMT800 come to mind--and now JVC is joining the party with the RV-NB50 Kaboom.

This newest Kaboom keeps the CD player, FM radio, and tubular design of the earlier Kaboom model (first launched in 1998), but it adds the requisite iPod dock and line-in port. The Kaboom can also play back digital audio files from USB drives. JVC throws in a shoulder strap too, so you can blast the Kaboom's 40-watt speakers on the go. The unit will be available … Read more

JVC's new Blu-ray player is a Profile 1.1 throwback

These days, what separates Blu-ray players from one another has less to do with how they play Blu-rays--they all do that pretty well--and more to do with the sort of extra features they offer. Many players, for instance, can access a variety of online entertainment options, including Amazon Video On Demand, Pandora, Vudu, and especially Netflix. Unfortunately, JVC's latest player doesn't have any of those online features. In fact, it can't even access the online extras found on some Blu-ray Discs.

JVC has released an entry-level Blu-ray player, the XV-BP11 ($200), which--surprisingly--only complies with the older Blu-ray … Read more

JVC Everio GZ-MG670, GZ-MG680 Quick Take

CNET has not reviewed the JVC Everio GZ-MG670 and GZ-MG680 standard-definition digital camcorders. However, they are primarily the same as the JVC Everio GZ-MS120, which has been reviewed.

The only differences between the models are size, storage media, and in-camera video upconversion. The slightly smaller MS120 has no fixed internal memory. Instead, it has two SD/SDHC memory card slots, but no included memory cards. Buyers must purchase an SD/SDHC card up to 32GB separately.

The JVC Everio GZ-MG670 and MG680 have internal 80GB and 120GB hard drives, respectively, for storage as well as a microSDHC card slot for … Read more
