On Thursday, Instagram released a what appeared to be a rather mundane update to its Android and iOS apps. Reading the release notes you'd think the update only addressed various bugs. The company later announced by a tweet from the Instagram account, it was revealed the update also included new controls for video playback in your timeline. While the update was announced for both Android and iOS at the same time, the Android update has yet to hit the Google Play Store.
Facebook began rolling out a new update a couple of weeks ago that allowed Android users to finally edit comments and posts. The update should have rolled out to you by now, giving you the ability to make edits from your Android phone or tablet.
To edit a comment, just tap on the comment you want to edit, then choose "Edit Comment." … Read more
One of the advantages that iMessage has over text messaging is that an indicator is displayed when the other person in the conversation is typing a message. This simple animation gives you a heads-up of an incoming message; I often find myself staring at the dancing dots until the message eventually comes through.
That same feature can also be the center of a prank. Yesterday I spotted a tweet from @Panzer linking to a GIF-based iMessage prank. I wasn't sure what to expect when I clicked on the link, but I was not disappointed.

When shared iCloud Photo Stream albums first launched on iOS, they were a one-way street. Only the person who created the album and invited others to view it could add photos to the stream.
During the iOS 7 announcement last June, it was briefly mentioned that shared iCloud Photo Streams would soon have the ability for both the creator and the subscribers to contribute to the same album.
Fast forward to the release of iOS 7 and the revamped iCloud Photo Stream service, which now also allows for video uploads, and it's not far-fetched to assume subscribers are automatically … Read more
Until I stumbled across this handy how-to page from Apple, I didn't realize I was accessing my saved drafts on the iOS Mail app in a wrong-headed, roundabout way. My method was to leave the All Inboxes screen and navigate up a level to the Mailboxes screen, where I would then tap one of my accounts in the Accounts section at the bottom and then select the Drafts option.
Because I am easily distracted, I often have half-written emails that I must return to. Thanks to Apple pointing out a better way, I can now access my saved drafts … Read more
Last week Google released another build of Chrome Beta for Android. The normal bug fixes and refined features, as well as new issues were introduced in the public beta of Chrome. Perhaps one of the more interesting changes in the Chrome Beta is the introduction of a tried and true method for adding a shortcut to a Web site or Web app to your Android device's home screen.

Two months after introducing two-factor verification to its Premium account users, Evernote has made it available for all users. With this security feature enabled, you will need to enter your password along with a verification code sent to your mobile phone in order to log in to your account. What this means is that if someone gets a hold of your Evernote password, this nefarious individual would also need to be in possession of your phone to access your data.
With the redesign of iOS 7, the color mode to differentiate when a switch is set to on or off has changed. The color of a switch that's off is white, and the color for a switch that's on is green.
Previous versions of iOS also had an On or Off indicator in view when a switch was moved to one side or another. Alas, those labels are gone in iOS 7, but you can add a different type of label should you prefer it. For some, be it due to disabilities or other personal preference, the color-only … Read more
Samsung's latest flagship device is scheduled to arrive in stores this week. The Galaxy Note 3 is bigger and better in nearly all respects. The company added a larger, 5.7-inch display with a higher resolution, a speedy 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, and 3GB of RAM, and gave its S Pen stylus even more features, all while making the device slimmer and sleeker than its predecessor.
