Everybody using it complains that it installs unwanted stuff (like toolbars and spyware). So be glad it doesn't work.

If there's a "direct download" link, use that. It downloads a no-frills, no-toolbars, no spyware installer. If there's no such link download directly from the makers site. There always are more sources than download.com.

a dim inoperable screen is quite common when installing a program. That triggers UAC (User Account Control) which does that, while popping up a Windows asking if you really want program X to change your computer. In the picture http://static.codekoala.com/site/articles/winders7shots/windows7_27.png you see that happening when installing Avast! antivirus.
So you just click Yes and the install continues. Or you click No and the install stops. Couldn't be simpler.

So if there's a problem it's not a CNET installer problem, but a UAC problem. Maybe that popup is just an icon on your taskbar in stead of popping up. Did you check that?

But it's easy to disable UAC, either permanently (not recommended) or just temporarily during this install.
