How to connect pc to stereo receiver?

I cannot figure out how to connect my pc to stereo receiver in order to stream audio. I am on my second audio/video receiver, which replaced an older stereo receiver. Currently using a Harmon Kardon AVR154, which I imagine is new / good enough for no need to convert digital-to-analog, as it is a digital receiver. I have tried connecting both audio composite cables and digital coaxial cable from the pc internal soundboard, an ASUS M4A785-M, with an added S/PDIF module connection. Do I need to upgrade the pc with an additional internal audio card?

Are you trying to send audio from HK AVR154 to your computer and onto the internet?

OR

Are you trying to play audio from your PC through your HK AVR154 to listen to it?

Connect PC to AVR Rx.

I used an ethernet/WiFi bridge.
The Rx I have had an ethernet (cat 5) input, so the bridge converts to WiFi and picks up the signal from my router.

I'd connect the speaker or headphone out from the PC to the AUX IN of your receiver. You might need a converter cable, but those are cheap to buy or easy to make.

I first used a VGA cable and it worked, w audio cable to TV, HDMI did not. Then, I used HDMI but had to go to Control on PC, then went to Display and found Sound. Had to chose method of sound and got HDMI to work with both. I have PC connected to TV. I use mostly on Film and TV downloaded to PC..ALSO, got Home Theater to work by connecting Cable Box to my receiver/stereo rather than to TV using Red/White cables. Now I can play thru PC to TV to Home Theater/Receiver.
