Best way 2 remotely control a laptop w/out pict distortion

Last year my dell Inspiron e1505 running XP got a virus that I could not eliminate. So I tried to do a system restore; however, my computer's battery no longer worked so I had to leave it plugged. Well during that restore I kicked the plug in the middle of it, shutting down my computer. This destroyed my registry preventing me from doing most tasks. Because of the battery, registry issue, and the screen no longer worked I bought a new laptop.
Now that I have a good, powerful laptop XPS L702X w/ windows 7, I'm trying to fix my old laptop. I've done a factory reset to fix the registry issue. My hope is to leave the Inspiron continuously connected to my TV (a 2 year old Samsung) so that I can use the internet on my TV.
My ultimate goal is to use the Inspiron as a go between for my new laptop. Essentially I'd like to be able to access my XPS laptop wirelessly through my Inspiron so I can see it on my TV. My intinal thought was to download windows 7 on the Inspiron, then use that to remotely access the XPS. The issue is that on my new computer I run solid modeling programs and high res games. On my work computer I've attempted to use webex to show models I've made in Solidworks to others and found it to be glitchy; therefore, I fear this might be the same issue as with the webex, especially if I try to do any gaming. Is there a program that would be best to use which would produce minimal glitchiness? Or is there another way to go about all this using my old laptop? Also would it be possible to do all this while leaving XP on the Inspiron or would it be best to upgrade it to 7 (I hate 8 so please don't suggest that).
