how to get internet using ethernet plug on my packard bell

i have a laptop windows 7 Packard bell and i cant get internet to use on it using the ethernet plug, i have and now using the ethernet cable to use on my canaima laptop with ubuntu install and its working prefectly but when i use it with the packard bell it not showing up, the modem is not even blinking .

the modem modle is

That looks quite different from what's usual. That starts with something like you see in http://nuwan4u.wordpress.com/2011/09/12/ipconfig/ showing the hostname and the Ethernet adapter.

So my guess is some drivers and protocols aren't installed. What's the history of this machine, and what changed since it last worked?

MY internet icon or local internet connection is not shown in network connections. i want to know how to fix this so i can use my internet am using a packard bell net book windows 7 starter

With me, under network connections in Windows explorer only the shares (a few printers and one folder) on my own PC are shown. If I would turn on my other PC connected to my home network I expect I would see the shared folders on that PC also.

So no Internet icon or no "local internet connection' (what's that, internet by definition isn't local) shown. Nothing wrong so far.

If you can't connect to Internet, and suspect it's a software issue (you didn't answer my questions about the history) all I can advice is to go back to factory conditions using the Packard Bell supplied recovery methods. Then it should work. If it doesn't work then either, it's a hardware issue.

ok about the history of laptop that is unknown, the laptop was my sisters and she doesnt have knowledge of why it is not connecting to the internet using the ethernet cable.

the details i had provided using the CMD (ipconfig )means nothing to me, since i have no understanding of it. the local conncetion talk about was by meaning to say the icons such as the (wireless network connection) that is normally shown in the (Change adapter settings). On anyother computer should have the (local network connection) icons with each showing details if disabled or connected, only the wireless icon or wireless network conection "thing" is showing if i want to connect to the internet via wifi.

i have boradband internet connection and the cable using to connect right now am using it on a Canaima netbook laptop with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Installed, so its not the cable i try the system recovery on the Packard bell Netbook but it is not connecting with the ethernet cable.

am not sure of the software installation or if there ever was
